San Antonio Fire Department (SAFD) is the first metropolitan service to launch a whole blood program.
According to Dr. C. J. Winckler, SAFD Deputy Medical Director and assistant clinical professor at UT Health, the department expects to increase trauma survival rates from 20-30% to 70%.
